If the powder or cream version of mineral makeup doesn't suit you, there's another solution. And that's liquid mineral make-up. The instructions for making it have been adapted so that even beginners can master it, and at the same time so that it contains a minimum of ingredients and is therefore gentle on the skin.
Liquid mineral make-up is similar to powder mineral make-up. Its production is really simple, you just need to prepare a powder mixture for mineral make-up and then dilute it with oils in a 1:1 ratio. The antioxidant vitamin E has also been added to prolong the freshness and permanence of the makeup. At the same time, various dispersants and agents that keep the powdered ingredients in the oil buoyancy, which could irritate the skin and unnecessarily complicate the recipe, were omitted. Therefore, make-up should always be shaken before use to ensure that the oils and powder ingredients are well mixed. In case you don't know which oil to choose, we present an overview of five oils and their benefits for the skin. With our comparison of the properties of such oils in conjunction with make-up, you'll get an overviewwhich one would be best suited for your skin.

1.thoroughly disinfect the utensils, containers and packaging, e.g. with ethanol, and wipe dry.2.prepare the mixture for the powder mineral make-up (according to our instructions).3. add oils and vitamin E to the finished powder mixture (already adjusted to your skin tone and thoroughly blended in a blender), mix with a whisk.4. fill into your chosen container, shake the mixture before use (over time the powder settles to the bottom).
As you can see, the production of liquid mineral make-up consists of only a few steps and is not difficult. As mentioned above, the ingredients are intentionally omitted to keep the powder in the air for a long time, as the aim was not to complicate the product. And if you want to keep the product as natural as possible, it would be very difficult to find a reagent that would keep such a large weight of powdered raw materials in the ash for a long time. Therefore, always shake the product before use, the powdered raw materials will settle slightly to the bottom with time.Liquid mineral makeup provides the same coverage as powder makeup, but due to the use of oils in the blend, it goes on well and hydrates the skin effectively. Both dry and combination skin will appreciate this form of makeup, as the oils effectively nourish the skin. If you have oily skin, choose oils that are suitable for this type of skin, i.e. oils that do not weigh it down unnecessarily and are quickly absorbed. Since bacteria survive in a non-aqueous environment, such as liquid mineral make-up, for a very limited time, there is no need to use a preservative. Although vitamin E has been added, it is not a preservative, but an antioxidant that prolongs the freshness of the oils and retards their oxidation.
It is a good idea to store your makeup away from sources of direct sunlight or heat, as this will prolong the freshness of the oils and their stability. On the other hand, if you know your product will be in such an environment, try wrapping the bottle with tinfoil and making smaller batches so you always have fresh product on hand. It's a good idea to store liquid mineral makeup in a pump bottle. Choose a pump designed for oils or creams. Not only will the product be easier to dispense and apply, you won't come into contact with the rest of the product in the bottle, so you won't accidentally get water in it (from wet hands)and avoid any significant bacterial contamination.
Below you will find a comparison of the properties of our selected oils for the production of liquid mineral make-up. Of course, you can choose any vegetable oil or blend of oils, but if you don't know where to start, wehe overview below will give you valuable information on how the different oils behave in combinationwith powdered ingredients, how they are absorbed by the skin, etc.
The first sample we tested is a liquid mineral makeup with MCT Caprylis oil. This is a substance otherwise known as caprylic/capric triglyceride, which can be found in many cosmetic products, including natural cosmetics. It is a colorless oily liquid, often derived from coconut oil. Due to its properties, it helps to incorporate oil-soluble actives into products and improve their stability. It is an alternative to synthetically derived oil raw materials in cosmetic products.MCT Caprylis is great in that it has no scent or color, so there was no color change in mineral makeup when tested. It also has the advantage that MCT Caprylis has high stability and so oxidizes minimally. In conjunction with the powder makeup, it blended well over the skin, leaving no noticeable greasy feeling. On the other hand, this oil is not very nourishing for the skin as it is just a blend of fatty acids. MCT Caprylis is definitely worth opting for if you will be storing your makeup in a sunny place, or if the product will be exposed to temperature fluctuations or if you will be using it only sporadically. Because MCT Caprylis will give you a long product life, as it oxidizes the slowest of the oils you choose, it's a good one to choose even if you prepare your makeup on the go.
Another of the oils tested is cottonseed oil. This oil is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, similar to olive oil. In addition, it contains vitamin E and other antioxidants and thus helps to moisturise the skin, reduce the signs of ageing and has anti-inflammatory properties, for example thanks to linolenic acid. It is also suitable for products containing active ingredients, as it improves the absorption of these ingredients by the skin. Cottonseed oil is light in colour and so does not significantly affect the colour of the final product. Overall, the combination of make-up with this oil gave slightly less coverage than with other oils (cottonseed oil did not contribute to the highon the other hand, this make-up was absorbed very quickly and did not leave the skin feeling greasy. Cottonseed oil is one of the most affordable oils, so it is a good alternative for beginners if you don't know which oil to choose and don't want to invest a lot in the product.
Yellow-orange rosehip seed oil is one of the more luxurious oils we've tried when making liquid mineral makeup. Rosehip seed oil is rich in vitamins, antioxidants, essential fatty acids and phenols, many of which exhibit anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It hydrates the skin and the natural vitamin A content helps to brighten the skin. At the same time, it is rich in vitamin C, which is essential for collagen synthesis. you can get rosehip oil from the seeds or berries. In this case, rosehip seed oil was chosen because it is slightly lighter in colour than the fruit oil - it contains fewer carotenoids and similar pigments that affect the colour of the resulting oil. However, rosehip seed oil also contains a certain amount of plant pigments, which, although beneficial for the skin, but on the other hand, they affect the final make-up shade that is visible after the product is applied to the skin. Thus, the makeup got a slightly darker shade than when using MCT Caprylis or cottonseed oil. On the other hand, it did provide more intense coverage because the oil itself contributed its pigments to the resulting shade. Although there was some discolouration of the product visible once the make-up was applied to the skin, rosehip oil provides very many benefits to the skin, many of which are difficult to replace with other oils. This oil is particularly suited to drier skin, and was observed to be the oiliest in tests. However, due to its high content of valuable substances, this oil is the least stable and oxidizes easily, so prepare smaller batches to always have a fresh product.
The combination of two oil ingredients, in this case calendula macerate and alkyl benzoate, is also an option to prepare a liquid mineral make-up. Calendula macerate, like calendula, is known for its soothing effects on the skin, aids in skin regeneration and healing, and has anti-inflammatory properties. At the same time, it contains antimicrobial substances that help reduce the manifestations of acne. Calendula macerate in sunflower oil not only exhibits the properties of sunflower oil, but there is the added benefit of oil-soluble substances that have been extracted from calendula. Calendula macerate is a pale yellow oil without a distinct scent. It partially affects the final coverage and colour of the liquid make-up, but it is not a significant change. Alkyl benzoate is used in combination with oils to reduce the overall greasiness of the product. This is also why this tested make-up absorbed quickly, which is one of the properties of alkyl benzoate. However, the makeup left a slightly more noticeable greasy feeling on the skin than cottonseed oil, so if you want a less greasy product, increase the proportion of alkyl benzoate at the expense of calendula macerate. While this will reduce the amount of substances that the calendula macerate would be able to deliver to your skin, on the other hand on the other hand, make-up will be more comfortable to wear if your skin requires less oily products.
Another good quality cold-pressed vegetable oil is raspberry oil. This oil is primarily known for its high SPF value, and therefore this kind of makeup will give you some protection from the sun, and moreif it does not replace the use of sunscreen, as it is not possible to verify the actual SPF of the product at home.Raspberry oil is one of the oils suitable for problematic skin as it does not tend to clog pores. In addition, raspberry oil contains anti-inflammatory substances and antioxidants such as vitamin A and E, which help to regenerate the skin. These vitamins and other substances help to reduce the signs of agingand boost collagen production in the skin. This vegetable oil is orange to golden yellow in color, hence when tested, it had an impact on the final shade of the product. Also, if you've managed to blend makeup lighter than your skin tone, you don't need to redo it right away, just add raspberry or similarly colored oil and chances are you'll get a dark enough shade. The advantage of raspberry oil was also that it was absorbed very quickly by the skin.
As mentioned, you can experiment with homemade recipes to achieve the desired properties. However, many factors such as humidity, temperature, quality of ingredients and storage can affect the end result. Before using any raw material to make a cosmetic product, familiarize yourself with its properties, recommended dosage, storage conditions or safe handling. Any raw material may have the potential to cause an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals, so before using a product, we recommend that you find out if you suffer from an allergy to any of the raw materials or the overall product, e.g. by a skin test. If you have very sensitive or very acne-prone skin, or other skin and health problems, we recommend that you consult a medical professionalbefore applying a new product to your skin, whether it is a homemade cosmetic product, a pure raw material or a commercially available product.
