EcoSoya Pillar Blend Soy Wax is a natural soy wax. It has been specially designed to be easily removed from silicone and acrylic moulds and is therefore intended for the production of freestanding candles. At the same time, it does not form a "frosting" effect on the surface, the candles are beautifully smooth and shiny after removal from the mould. It can also be used for the production of scented waxes for aroma lamps. Made in the UK. The wax is also made from soya beans, which are GMO, however GMO is not present in the wax itself (it is only measured in the proteins).
It can bedyed and holds the scent nicely. It is compatible with most fragrance and essential oils, with the best results coming from fragrances that are designed directly into soy waxes. There is no need to add any additional additives. Candle parts can be re-melted and reused, but it is not recommended to heat the wax above 85°C.
Study the candle making process in detail before you start making candles and try each new combination (whether of container, wick, scent, colour or blends of different waxes) on one small candle and do a burn test. Only when the burning result is fully satisfactory should you start making candles in larger quantities. This will prevent unnecessary disappointment and the spoiling of large quantities of material.
How to melt wax: Weigh your wax and make sure you melt the amount needed for your mould. We recommend melting the wax and keeping it warm at around 75°C (75°F). Stirring continuously while melting is important to prevent burning. It is recommended to reduce the heat just before the wax is completely melted. Avoid prolonged heating of the wax above 90°C.
How to colour the wax: If you want to colour the wax with special candle dyes, we recommend that you increase the temperature of the wax momentarily to allow the dyes to melt and mix properly. Ideally, mix the dye with a small amount of wax, which is heated to 75°C and mixed well. This dyed portion is then mixed into the cooler wax, heated to 45 - 60°C, again taking care to mix and incorporate the dye into the wax properly. The dye must be evenly mixed. If you want to create darker shades of colour, add a small amount of black.
How to add fragrance: You can add fragrance to your candles by using essential or fragrance oils, or a combination of the two. Before using the fragrances themselves, make sure they are fully soluble in oils(all fragrances in our range can be used in candles and are soluble in oils). The amount depends on the type of fragrance used. In general, fragrance oils are much more concentrated and thus you only need to add a smaller amount than essential oils. Fragrance oils are already blended fragrance compositions, whereas essential oils are pure single-blend fragrances that we recommend mixing for the ideal result. Read more about the difference between fragrance oils and essential oils in the articles Fragrance Oils and Essential Oils. For this type of wax, 5-10% fragrance ingredients are ideal. Fragrance ingredients are ideally added just before pouring the wax into the containers. Once the fragrance has been added, we recommend stirring the wax for 1-2 minutes to allow the fragrance to diffuse ideally.
How to choose the right wick: The optimal wick size depends on the final dimensions of the candle. Place the wick in the centre of the mould. Generally, larger diameter candles need a thicker wick, or the use of more than one wick. In addition, vegetable wax blends have a much higher viscosity than paraffin waxes and therefore need thicker burning wicks. Please note very strongly that the combination of each wick and wax needs to be properly tested before embarking on candle making. Since wick burning is affected by the type and amount of dyes added in addition to the diameter of the candle and the type of wax used, we cannot guarantee proper and trouble-free burning for every combination. The final choice of wick should always be confirmed by individual customer testing. We recommend that you perform the first test with pure wax only, and if you are satisfied with the burn results, add different concentrations of fragrances and dyes gradually. It is also very useful to keep individual samples for a period of time so that you can return to each combination over time.
Mould preparation: moulds should be clean, dry and free of any dirt. They should be at least room temperature, but heating them to about 45-50°C has the advantage of making it easy to remove the candles from the moulds.
Pouring the wax: We recommend pouring the melted and heated wax, complete with the desired scents and colours, at 60°C into the pre-heated moulds, or immediately after the scents have been added and thoroughly mixed. The specific wax pouring temperature should be adapted to the room temperature and other individual conditions. However, the time that the wax is heated to a higher temperature should be minimized - this will prevent the loss of the top notes of your fragrances and also the development of cracks and voids during cooling.
Cooling the wax: After pouring the wax into the wick container, it should be allowed to cool gradually. Rapid cooling can cause cracks and cavities. Allow the candle to sit for at least 24 hours before lighting it for the first time. If you get a crack or cavity on the surface of the candle (the centre falls through), finish the candle by pouring a small amount of melted wax on the surface or by heating the surface of the candle with a heat gun.
The wax is biodegradable and suitable for vegans. No animal products are used in its production and no animal tests have been carried out. This wax comes in flake form.
