Salicylic acid is one of the substances used in the fight against acne. With its anti-inflammatory effects, it helps to control redness and improve the condition of acne. As long as your skin tolerates salicylic acid well, you can make a roll-on for rashes in the comfort of your own home. The roll-on is only applied directly to the rash, once or twice a day.
80,5 % Distilled water10 % Glycerine4 % Sodium lactate1 % Salicylic acid1 % Zinc PCA2 % Niacinamide0,5 % Bicarbonate of soda1 % Euxyl PE 9010 - preservative
1. disinfect all containers and utensils used in production, for example with ethanol.2.mix distilled water, glycerine and sodium lactate. Mix well and add salicylic acid.3. place the aqueous mixture in a water bath (ensure that the temperature does not exceed 65 °C) and stir until the salicylic acid is dissolved. This may take several minutes.4.once the salicylic acid has dissolved, remove the mixture from the water bath and allow it to cool to room temperature. Then check the pH, e.g. with pH papers, and adjust the pH to 5-6 using baking soda. The amount of baking soda is only a guide, the actual consumption will depend on the accuracy of the weighing as well as whether you make changes to the recipe. Therefore, add the baking soda gradually and keep checking the pH after thorough mixing.5.add Zinc PCA and, after mixing, niacinamide.6.finally, add the preservative.
The recipe for roll-on for rashes is given in percentages so that you can prepare any dosage. Convert the percentages of each ingredient into grams as follows: choose what the total weight of the product will be, e.g. 10 grams. Multiply the total weight by the ingredient percentages and divide the result by 100. E.g. for distilled water: 10 g x 80.5% = 805 → 805/100 = 8.5 g of distilled water for a total product weight of 10 g.
Salicylic acid can sometimes be more difficult to dissolve, so sodium lactate is included in the recipe to make it easier to dissolve. Should complete dissolution not occur even after heating and prolonged stirring, add a small amount of sodium lactate for a roll-on for rashes.
The rash roll-on cannot be manufactured without checking and adjusting the pH. Salicylic acid can lower the pH too much, which can be irritating to the skin. On the other hand, both Zinc PCA and Niacinamide require higher pH values for their effectiveness.
In addition to salicylic acid, the rash roll-on also contains other active ingredients, the properties of which we describe below.
Glycerin is an essential ingredient in many serums and water-based products and is also included in the recipe for the roll-on for rashes. It is added primarily for its moisturizing effects on the skin. In a rash roll-on recipe , it facilitates the solubility of salicylic acid, which dissolves well in alcohols, and glycerin also belongs to this broad group of substances.
The sodium salt of lactic acid is another substance of importance in facilitating the dissolution of salicylic acid in aqueous solution. It is the increase in the concentration of sodium lactate in the mixture that will facilitate the dissolution of the salicylic acid for the rash roll-on. It is also a moisturizer for the skin, keeping it hydrated by increasing the amount of naturally occurring sodium lactate in the skin.
The main active ingredient for the rash roll-on is salicylic acid - this is a BHA acid (beta hydroxy acid), which is a little milder on the skin than the AHA acids (alpha hydroxy acids) used for chemical peels. Salicylic acid is a frequently used ingredient in acne skin care because of its anti-inflammatory, exfoliating and antibacterial properties. Thus, it helps to reduce inflammation and redness.
Niacinamide or also vitamin B3 is a substance that is also important in acne skin care. Niacinamide is sought after because it helps even skin tone and alleviate the condition of pigment spots or acne blemishes, which is also why it was chosen for a roll-on for rashes. In addition, it has anti-inflammatory properties and helps improve the condition of enlarged pores that can also occur with acne.
Zinc together with pyrrolidone carboxylic acid is also one of the active ingredients for the roll-on for rashes. Combining with this organic acid facilitates the penetration of zinc into the skin. Zinc PCA is suitable for acne-prone skin because it helps regulate sebum, has antimicrobial effects and also moisturizes the skin.
Baking soda is added in the recipe for the roll-on for rashes to raise the pH. As mentioned, some of the ingredients in the rash roll-on are sensitive to pH changes and require a certain pH value to function properly. When adding baking soda, always stir the mixture thoroughly, as the reaction releases carbon dioxide, which must be got rid of by stirring.
Although salicylic acid is the active ingredient for the roll-on for rashes, you can nevertheless substitute some of the ingredients and adapt the recipe to suit yourself.
Ordinary distilled water can also be substituted for floral waters. However, each floral water has its own pH value, which will affect the amount of baking soda used.this makes it all the more important to add the soda gradually and to check the pH of the rash roll-on mixture from time to time.
If you wish to use salicylic acid for the rash roll-on, glycerine and sodium lactate are essential to dissolve it in the aqueous solution. However, zinc PCA and niacinamide are not compulsory ingredients and you can exclude them from the recipe. Alternatively, they can be replaced with other active ingredients. In this case, however, make sure at what pH these substances are active and whether they are compatible with salicylic acid.
Salicylic acid is also soluble in ethanol (alcohol), so you can also substitute water, glycerine and sodium lactate for ethanol in a rash roll-on recipe. However, high concentrations of ethanol can be irritating to some skin types. At the same time, it is a good idea to use non-denatured food grade alcohol, as some denaturing agents can be harmful and irritating to the skin and body.
Also, baking soda for a roll-on for rashes can be substituted with other substances that raise the pH. The most common is a 30% sodium hydroxide solution. When sodium hydroxide is used, carbon dioxide will not form in the rash roll-on mixture. At the same time, the amount of baking soda needed is not equal to the amount of sodium hydroxide solution used, so add this solution drop by drop and check the pH continuously.
Euxyl PE 9010 is not the only preservative you can use for roll-on rashes. When choosing a preservative , the pH of the product will matter most, so choose preservatives that are active in the resulting pH of the product and are broad-spectrum (act on yeast, bacteria and fungi).
It is already clear from the name that a small bottle with a ball, the so-called roll-on, is used for the resulting mixture. The roll-on has the advantage of making it easier to apply directly to the rash. The disadvantage is that the beadcomes into direct contact with the skin and subsequently contaminates the remaining solution. For this reason, it is a good idea to use up the rash roll-on within a few weeks (so it is ideal to make it in small batches).
The other option is to use airless bottles. These contain a pump which you squeeze out the required amount of the mixture and apply to your skin. The advantage is that you don't come into contact with the rest of the mixture and it is also protected from the air. On the other hand, there is a more difficult application as it is no longer a roll-on and the salicylic acid mixture is good to thicken, which will reduce the fluidity. For thickening, konjac powder at 0.5% or less is ideal.
As mentioned, you can experiment with homemade recipes to achieve the desired properties. However, many factors such as humidity, temperature, quality of ingredients and storage can affect the final result.
Before using any raw material to make a cosmetic product, familiarize yourself with its properties, recommended dosage, storage conditions or safe handling. Any raw material may have the potential to cause an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals, so before using a product, we recommend that you find out if you suffer from an allergy to any of the raw materials or the overall product, e.g. by a skin test.
If you have very sensitive or very acne-prone skin, or other skin and health problems, we recommend that you consult a medical professionalbefore applying a new product to your skin, whether it is a homemade cosmetic product, a pure raw material or a commercially available product.
Roll-on for rashes will be a great skin care aid for young people whose skin is still changing.
