A simple homemade powder face mask is an easy cosmetic product that anyone can make. For this reason, the powder face mask will not only find a place as part of your beauty routine.it is also a great gift that can be stored in a well-sealed container for a long time.
50% Pink cosmetic clay 10 % Volcanic ash35% Bentonite5 % Inulin
1. disinfect the utensils that will come into contact with the raw materials and the container where your powder face mask will be stored. 2. mix all the ingredients that make up the homemade powder mask and gradually add water until you reach the desired consistency. Mix thoroughly to remove any lumps that may be caused by the bentonite not having had time to bind the water present.
Apply the homemade face mask to the face and leave on for about 10 minutes. For storage, choose a well-sealed container, ideally made of glass. Always store the homemade powder face mask in a dry state, only remove as much as you need from the container to apply to the skin.
The advantage of having a powder mask that consists of only dry ingredients and is stored without the presence of water is the fact that it does not need a preservative. However, all you need to do is add a little water to roughly a tablespoon of the powder mixture and your homemade face mask is ready to use.
Now, let's take a closer look at the ingredients that a homemade powder face mask has:
At first glance, you can already recognise pink French clay by its pink to brick colour, which is due to its mineral content, especially iron oxides. It is created by mixing red clay with white kaolin and is suitable for the care of mature but also oily skin, which it helps to effectively degrease. Therefore, a homemade powder mask containing pink clay is also suitable for problematic acne-prone skin.
This fine cosmetic clay is especially appreciated by more sensitive or mature skin. Due to the fact that bentonite swells and binds water very strongly in a water environment, this cosmetic clay is suitable for drier skin, as it degreases to a lesser extent than kaolin, for example. In addition, a powdered face mask containing bentonite helps to detoxify the skin and remove impurities.
This grey-coloured clay is, as its name suggests, formed as a result of volcanic activity. It contains minerals and rock particles, which is why it has exfoliating properties, so a powdered face mask containing it helps to remove dead skin cells.
The white powdery substance called inulin is not a clay but is actually a polysaccharide found in chicory. The homemade powder face mask contains it because it is a prebiotic - it promotes the growth and development of the skin's natural microflora, helping the skin defend itself against harmful pathogens.
Homemade powder face mask does not have a fixed recipe and you can adapt it to some extent to your own needs.
You can use floral hydrolats instead of distilled water to moisturize the mask. Rose water in particular is a very popular hydrolat, as it has a soothing effect and suits many skin types. In addition, it will leave your product gently scented.
As a substitute for floral hydrolates, herbal decoctions can be easily prepared at home from either fresh or dried herbs to suit your skin's exact needs.
If your skin doesn't need as much degreasing, you can increase the bentonite content. This will make the homemade powder face mask more hydrating, or reduce the time you have it on your skin.
Give your powder face mask a pleasant scent by adding essential oils. These can also provide added benefits such as antimicrobial or soothing effects. However, always follow the recommended dosage for the respective essential oil and add them only to the finished wet mask.
Your homemade powder face mask is easily spiced up by adding some other powdered ingredients. You can reach for other types of clays depending on the requirements of your skin.
For vitamin and mineral content, your homemade powder mask can be richer by adding fruitpowders, which also add a subtle colour and often a pleasant fruity scent.
Your powder face mask can have even more intense cleansing properties if you add activated charcoal to it. This effectively binds impurities to itself and thus helps in the care of problematic skin.
As mentioned, you can experiment with homemade recipes to achieve the desired properties. However, many factors such as humidity, temperature, quality of ingredients and storage can affect the final result.
Before using any raw material to make a cosmetic product, familiarize yourself with its properties, recommended dosage, storage conditions or safe handling. Any raw material may have the potential to cause an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals, so before using a product, we recommend that you find out if you suffer from an allergy to any of the raw materials or the overall product, e.g. by a skin test.
If you have very sensitive or very acne-prone skin, or other skin and health problems, we recommend that you consult a medical professionalbefore applying a new product to your skin, whether it is a homemade cosmetic product, a pure raw material or a commercially available product.
