Have you ever tried an oil-based gel? Now is the time to make one for you too. An oil-based gel will charm you, especially if you have dry and rough skin or are looking foryou're looking for an easy-to-melt and easy-to-care-for product that will give your skin the hydration and nutrients it needs. And it's not complicated to make at all.
A combination of wax and oil is considered as the basis for the production of an oil gel. It is these two ingredients that, when whipped and cooled, create the classic gel-like consistency that can normally only be achieved in water-based gels. Since oil gel does not contain water or water-based or water-soluble ingredients, this product is much more resistant to spoilage (provided that water does not get into it, for example when scooping with wet hands).

1. disinfect all utensils, containers and packaging that come into contact with the product or raw materials, for example with ethanol.2.in a heat-resistant container, weigh the raw materials from phase A (wax and MCT Caprylis), place on a water bath.3.slowly heat the phase A raw materials until the wax melts, then using a milk frother or stick blender, start whisking while still on the water bath.4.remove the container from the water bath while stirring with the mixer/foamer and continue to stir until the mixture reaches the desired consistency. The mixture will begin to thicken as it cools, so do not stop stirring.5.once mixed and cooled to room temperature, add the ingredients from Phase B and stir them thoroughly into the mixture so that they are evenly dispersed.6. fill into the selected container.
Want to make your oil body gel easier to make? You've come to the right place. It's important to start whisking the mixture of ingredients from stage A while still in the water bath, so that the wax doesn't have time to cool and harden before it combines with the oil. Otherwise you will get lumps of hardened wax in the product. If this happens, reheat the mixture and start whisking again while still in the water bath. The mixture from Phase A will not begin to thicken without cooling, so it is necessary to remove the container from the water bath while mixing and continue mixing as it cools. When the temperature begins to drop below the melting point of the wax, the mixture will thicken and take on a gel-like consistency. Therefore, do not stop stirring until the mixture cools and thickens further.Whisk the raw materials from phase B thoroughly into the mixture, otherwise they will be unevenly represented and interfere with the stability of the product.
If you want to know why these ingredients were chosen for the production of the oil body gel, their importance in the recipe or how they can be substituted, you will find out in the following lines.
The basis for the production of oil body gel is wax. In this case, beeswax was chosen because it is readily available, widely used in the cosmetic industry and also contains valuable vitamins and other ingredients. Of course, in addition to the bleached form of wax used in this recipe, you can also reach for the classic natural beeswax, which then gives the product a slightly golden colour. In addition to beeswax, you can also choose from a wide variety of plant-based vegan waxes, such as almond wax. Before choosing a wax, make sure it is suitable for cosmetic use (some waxes are only suitable for candle making). At the same time, it should be taken into account that changing the wax may also affect the viscosity of the final product. You may therefore need to adjust the proportion of wax in the recipe to achieve the desired consistency, so start by making the product in smaller batches and vary the proportion of wax until you are happy with the product.
A great carrier oil that will be appreciated in a wide range of beauty products is MCT Caprylis. Its INCI name is caprylic/capric triglyceride and it is a blend of fatty acids in the form of triglycerides isolated from various vegetable oils. Due to the selection of medium chain length fatty acids, this oil is low in grease, well absorbed by the skin. In addition, it has no colour or fragrance, so it is great to let the essential or fragrant oils in the product stand out. Another advantage of this oil is its high stability, so products containing this oil can last for a longer time, as MCT Caprylis oxidizes minimally.MCT Caprylis can be substituted with any other vegetable oil, however, please allow for discoloration of the product if the selected vegetable oil has an intense coloration. At the same time, the scent of the product may also change if the vegetable oil has its own fragrance. As mentioned, vegetable oils oxidize faster than MCT Caprylis, so do not omit the addition of vitamin E (tocopherol) in this case.
Tocopherol, otherwise known as vitamin E, is an oily substance of a rich brownish red colour that is not soluble in water, but rather in oils. Thanks to its antioxidant properties, it prolongs the freshness of oils. Due to the fact that tocopherol is unstable at higher temperatures, it must only be added at the cooling stage. If you use vegetable oils in your product, especially those that are cold-pressed, do not omit the addition of vitamin E. It can be replaced by tocopheryl acetate with similar properties.
Coenzyme Q10 is the active ingredient in this product that reduces the signs of skin ageing. The liquid form of this coenzyme is particularly suitable for beginners, as it is easily incorporated into oil products, since it is a raw material that is soluble in them. Coenzyme Q10 should be added during the cooling phase so as not to reduce its effects. There is also a powder form of coenzyme Q10 with a distinctive orange colour, but this may affect the colour of the final product. If you are a beginner, it is easier to work with the liquid form, but if you have powdered coenzyme Q10 on hand, you can use that as well. Coenzyme Q10 is a powerful antioxidant that occurs naturally in our bodies, but its production decreases as we age. It promotes skin elasticity, giving it a youthful appearance. Coenzyme Q10 can be omitted from the oil body gel and replaced with oil.
Another oil-based active ingredient is alkyl benzoate. This is a colorless, odorless, oily liquid that is often included in many cosmetic products, including those for sensitive skin. Alkyl benzoate serves as an emollient in products - it softens the skin and gives products a characteristic consistency and texture that ensures they are easy and pleasant to spread. In addition, alkyl benzoate exhibits antimicrobial properties. This substance may be omitted from the product, but may alter the texture and consistency of the product.
Ylang ylang essential oil has been chosen for the pleasant and sweet floral scent in the oil body gel. You will surely fall in love with the scent of this exotic plant. However, if you have a favourite essential oil, you can also use it instead of Ylang Ylang, but before adding it, check the dosage for that essential oil (published for products, for example according to IFRA standards). The palette of essential oils is not enough for you? Reach for fragrance oils. Because they are not extracted from plants but by synthesis, these fragrances offer an even wider range of scents than essential oils.
As mentioned, you can experiment with homemade recipes to achieve the desired properties. However, many factors such as humidity, temperature, quality of ingredients and storage can affect the final result. Before using any raw material to make a cosmetic product, familiarize yourself with its properties, recommended dosage, storage conditions or safe handling. Any raw material may have the potential to cause an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals, so before using a product, we recommend that you find out if you suffer from an allergy to any of the raw materials or the overall product, e.g. by a skin test. If you have very sensitive or very acne-prone skin, or other skin and health problems, we recommend that you consult a medical professionalbefore applying a new product to your skin, whether it is a homemade cosmetic product, a pure raw material or a commercially available product.
