How do you recognize quality and sustainable cosmetic raw materials?

Every year, Earth Day reminds us how important it is to behave responsibly towards nature - not just in words, but especially in deeds.

At Handymade, we strive to carry this philosophy into our everyday decisions, even when it comes to choosing the raw materials for our range. That's why we make sure that the raw materials we offer are not only effective, but also gentle - on the skin, on health and, most importantly, on the planet. One of the most reliable ways of verifying the organic origin and quality of raw materials is through international organic certificates.

Organic certificates at Handymade

Not every raw material that labels itself as "natural" or "organic" really is. Only an independent organic assessment can often confirm the real composition and production method. As a result of the assessment, organic certificates are issued, which check not only the origin of the ingredients, but also the ethical aspects of production, animal testing or organic packaging.

ECOCERT certification

ECOCERT is one of the best known verifications for natural and organic cosmetics.
Thanks to this certification we know that the raw material comes from at least 95% natural ingredients.

We can also verify the purity of the raw material because the certification prohibits ingredients such as silicones, parabens, synthetic perfumes or dyes.

For raw materials with this quality confirmation, you can be sure that the suppliers also place emphasis on eco-friendly packaging and sustainable production.

Tenzide Glucopon 50G APG - ECOCERT certified is suitable for natural cleaning products.

RSPO certification - Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil

Palm oil is a common ingredient in cosmetics, but its cultivation is associated with deforestation and threats to biodiversity.

RSPO is a certification that guarantees that palm oil does not come from illegal logging or endangered areas. And also that its cultivation respects the principles of respect for nature and human rights.

In our range you will find Beautyderm emulsifier - containing RSPO certified palm oil.

Soil Association certification

The Soil Association is a recognised UK certification with an emphasis on organic farming and organic cosmetics. It guarantees that raw materials meet strict sustainability standards.

All raw materials with this certification are grown without GMOs and synthetic pesticides and, equally importantly, the sourced ingredients in question are not tested on animals.

The organic shea butter in our range is sustainably sourced and certified by the Soil Association.

What does organic certification mean for the customer or formulator?

Using certified ingredients means security for the formulator.
If you formulate your own cosmetics at home or professionally, you are in control:

- transparent information about the origin of the raw materials

- more certainty when selecting ingredients for sensitive or problematic skin

- the ability to create products that comply with ethical and ecological values

Brands that use certified ingredients also find it easier to gain customer trust and can apply for their own product certifications.

How do we celebrate Earth Day at Handymade?

Sustainability is more than just a seasonal theme for us - it's the way we strive to operate every day. We minimize waste, package organically, and select raw materials consciously and transparently with respect to their eco-certifications.

Even though we are just a small part of a big world, we believe that every conscious step makes a difference.

Join us in creating cosmetics that are kind to you and to nature.
